Spacial Memories

IMG_7984

I was pleasantly surprised when my daughter said she wanted to play indoor soccer this season.

Soccer is something she excels at. Sadly, she had given it up after my mom died. She gave up crew too,
quit mid season because it coincided with my mother's
illness and death from lung cancer last year.

My mom was such a strong supporter of my girl that I just don't think she could bear seeing me in the sidelines alone. The intensity of her loss could only be magnified by my mother's all too obvious absence.

We were early to the game which allowed plenty of time to wander around the fairgrounds and shoot. I'd been meaning to do this for some time. I was glad to have reason to go there again. As it turned out I had nearly an hour before what turned out to be a scrimmage instead of a game because half our team, including the coach, got the time of the game wrong.

In the hour beforehand I had lots of time to take pics and think about all the other times I'd been to those grounds. Soccer games, fairs and craft shows. Many, many occasions shared with my mom and other occasions with my ex- partner and the child we had.

I'd forgotten how many experiences and memories I had tied to those grounds.

Burst Bubble

I wasn't sad, just accepting the memories of my losses.

My daughter was happy to be with her friends and even though the game turned out to be a scrimmage she gave it her all. Big and strong defender in the goal, she deflected nearly every attempt and even scored a goal from inside the box.

The crowd watched and applauded as one of her kicks landed downfield and rolled right past the goalie into the goal.

If my mom wasn't gently nudging the ball along, I hope she noticed.

Awwww, Jozee. It's kinda like you all got back up on the horse! Good for you. Maybe it was therapeutic?
